Second Grade 1st Quarter Objectives:

Own Your Reading
  •  RL.2.1 - Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text
  •  RL.2.5 - Describe the overall structure of a story, including describing how the beginning introduces the story and the ending concludes the action.
  •  SL2.1a- Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners (peers & adults) in small and large groups (respectful listening, gaining the floor with respects, speaking one at a time)
  •  L2.4 - Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words and phrases based on grade 2 reading and content, choosing flexibly from an array of strategies. Use sentence-level context as a clue to the meaning of a word or phrase.

 Launching Writer’s Workshop 
  W2.3- Write narratives, in which they recount a well-elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure. (small moments)

Addition & Subtraction
  2.OA.1 – Use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one step and two step word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing with unknowns in all positions.

  2. OA.2 - Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies.  By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.

  2.NBT.9 - Explain why addition and subtraction strategies work, using place value and the properties of operations.

  • 2P.1 Understanding the relationship between sound and vibrating objects
  • 2P.1.1 Illustrate how sound is produced by vibrating objects and columns of air.
