Ms. Pelletier Bio

A little bit of info about your child's teacher . . .

Hi. My name is Heather Pelletier, and I love teaching 2nd grade.  This is my 25th year teaching in elementary school, and I plan to teach many more years. Most of my career has been dedicated to teaching 1st and 2nd graders. After graduating from Liberty University in 1989, I began my teaching career in Lynchburg, VA and transferred to Wake County in 2001. I have taught at Douglas Elementary, Harris Creek Elementary, and Joyner Elementary Schools. I am Nationally Board Certified and have a NC license for Elementary Education PreK-8. Science is my favorite subject.  I have coached several Science Olympiad teams and was the director of a Science Summer Camp for 7 years. I am truly a kid at heart and love the messy hands-on projects.
I grew up in Durham, NC with a large family of seven. When I was in second grade, I spent most afternoons climbing trees, building forts, exploring the woods, and wading in the creek. I believe the best learning occurs through play. I still love nature and spending time outdoors.  All of my siblings still live in the area. I have two adult children and several fur-babies. Family is important to me.
I find many ways to relax when I am not teaching, most of which involve a freshly brewed cup of coffee. I like to read on my front porch and watch the bird feeder. My cats like to watch the birds too. I love gardening but my thumb is not as green as I would like it to be. I spend many weekends working in my shady backyard.
I am excited to begin another year of adventures at Brassfield and feel honored to be a part of such a wonderful community.

My Personal Mission Statement: I take great pride in my work and constantly seek ways to improve. Feedback is always welcomed. My passion is to help young cubs find their “roar” and to feel this same kind of pride for themselves. I am empowered when I see the wonder in their eyes as they explore the world around them. I seek new paths to learning, find connections to the real-world, aim to make learning fun, and  laugh at my mistakes along the way. My goal is to develop life-long learners that will seek new learning opportunities, find problems to solve, and develop leadership skills to implement positive change in an ever-changing global society. Learning together, laughing together, and living each day out by being the best that we can be . . . that’s Pelletier's PRIDE.
